Svevia Partners with Sigma Technology to Enhance Road Safety in Sweden
Sigma Technology Embedded Network, in collaboration with Svevia, launches a cutting-edge project aimed at reducing accidents and enhancing safety for road workers and drivers through advanced technology and data-driven insights.
Sweden is a leader in road safety, yet accidents at roadwork sites remain a persistent concern. To address this challenge, Sigma Technology Embedded Network and Svevia, a leading Swedish road construction and maintenance company, have joined forces on a groundbreaking project funded by the Swedish Building Industry Development Fund (SBUF). Safer TMA Shutdowns During Roadworks project utilizes advanced technology to improve safety for both road workers and motorists.
The initiative is designed to reduce accidents, provide alerts, and gather data to identify accident causes and dangerous areas. It also aims to change drivers' and workers' behaviors to create a safer environment for everyone.
"This project represents a significant step forward. By integrating advanced technology like radar, cameras, and real-time data analysis, we aim to reduce accidents and significantly create a safer environment for everyone. One of the core components of the project is data collection. By installing AXIS radars and cameras on TMA vehicles, the project team can monitor traffic behavior and safety zone breaches in real-time. This data is stored in a secure cloud," shares Danilo Chinchilla, President at Sigma Technology Embedded Network.
“In the short term, this technology can increase the awareness of road workers and road users to avoid dangerous situations. In the long term, this is an excellent opportunity to get started collecting site-specific and strategic road safety information to be able to fully understand and avoid safety problems throughout the road network in the future,” comments Andreas Bäckström, Contract engineer/Business developer at Svevia.
With this initiative, Sweden continues to lead by example in road safety, leveraging technology and data to create safer roads nationwide.
