Sigma Technology's Star for Life Ambassadors Return from South Africa with Renewed Commitment
Star for Life is a social empowerment program for youth in South Africa that promotes students’ self-esteem and health by providing tools to help them make wise life decisions. Star for Life’s coaches are on hand to work with the learner’s self-esteem, integrity, dreams, and goals. Through workshops, exercises, and music, children and young people learn about everything from puberty, consent, sexual and reproductive health, relationships, and hygiene to study discipline, empowerment, respect for others, creative expression, and entrepreneurship.
Sigma Technology Group has been a proud supporter of three schools in South Africa: Mmemezi Secondary, Nompondo Primary, and Nibela Primary. Through this partnership with the Star for Life Foundation, the company is dedicated to fostering education and growing role models for students in underserved communities.
Sigma Technology’s Star for Life Ambassadors recently returned from a trip to South Africa, where they strengthened ties with local communities. Besides, the trip allowed new ambassadors to witness the impact of the mission, visit schools, engage with students, and set new plans. The group of five ambassadors — Hanna Ingesson, Levente Erős, Simon Thörnblad, Rita Helli, and Galina Pesheva— will continue supporting the Star for Life mission.
Looking Ahead: Strengthening Our Commitment
During the next two years, Sigma Technology’s focus will include two major projects: creating a library at Mmemezi Secondary School and involving more schools in the computer curriculum that we started at Nompondo Primary School two years ago. By providing access to books and enhancing computer skills, we aim to open new educational doors for these young learners, many of whom do not have regular access to the internet or other learning resources.
Reflections of Senior Ambassadors: Hanna Ingesson and Levente Erős
The trip was filled with memorable moments for both senior and new ambassadors, further strengthening their commitment. Hanna Ingesson highlighted joining a classroom session at the Girls Club in Mmemezi High School. “The Girls Club teaches about women's rights and entrepreneurship. It was inspiring to see young girls learning how to support themselves and not be dependent on others."
She also expressed excitement over witnessing the talents of young learners. "At Nibela, a boy had built a working car out of scrap with functional lights! It was incredible to see how much potential these kids have with just a little support."
Levente Erős emphasized the team’s growing connection with local partners: "This year’s visit was focused on deepening the quality and intensity of our partnership with Star for Life, with the schools we support, and with Heroes of Tomorrow, a group of university students we support in their mission of inspiring high school learners. It was also a great chance to observe what has changed, to reassess needs, and to gather input for future projects so that they provide relevant help to our partners."
Over the next two years, Sigma Technology’s Star for Life ambassadors will focus on delivering impactful, well-targeted projects. With a newly created library and enhanced digital literacy, the focus continues to be on empowering students to dream big and achieve more.
