Press release -
Over half a million to Star for Life after Operation Day’s Work
In April, Sigma IT performed Operation Day’s Work where employees could donate a part of their salary to Star for Life. The company then promised to double the amount. The total donation was over half a million, or more precisely SEK 582 472.
The money was handed over at a ceremony on May 3rd, 2019 to Star for Life's representatives Anki Elken, Secretary General, and Thandeka Mabaso, responsible for South Africa.
Attending was also Dan Olofsson, founder of Sigma Group and Star for Life, and Lars Kry, CEO of Sigma IT.
– It is absolutely incredible, what fantastic generous employees we have, says Lars Kry in a comment. The interest and commitment of Star for Life shows that there are many with big hearts and a desire to create a better tomorrow.
Anki Elken, Secretary General at Star for Life continues;
– This generosity from Sigma, and above all from their employees, is extremely appreciated. Not only from an economic point of view but also from a humanitarian angle, contributing from their own pocket really shows genuine support for our business in South Africa and Namibia.
What should the money be used for? We asked Beatrice Silow, Director Communications and Cultural at Sigma IT.
– Most of the money will be used to develop Star for Life's mobile health clinics so that they can continue to make a difference for young people in South Africa. The clinics do a great and helpful work by, among other things, performing HIV/AIDS tests and informing about how to avoid being infected or avoiding infecting others. A small portion of the money will also be used for shoes to the school uniform for younger children, something that many families cannot afford to buy themselves.
Three years ago, a similar fundraising was carried out, which means that Sigma IT and their employees since 2016 donated unimaginable 1.1 million!
About Star for Life
Sigma's founder Dan Olofsson and his wife Christin started Star for Life in 2005 to try to stop the spread of HIV. Over the years, a unique methodology has been developed, where strengthened self-esteem, information and inspiration contribute to creating changes in young people's behaviour and giving them the opportunity to dare to believe in their dreams.
More than 100,000 students are present at Star for Life's schools and just over 250,000 young people have attended the program – the result is very good.
