Digital personal protection to safeguard women in leading positions

Executive Protection and Services is a new digital service from Sigma IT, designed to offer exposed individuals such as executive groups, extended protection. Especially HR managers are subject to digital threats and harassment.

According to SCB (Statistics Sweden), 77 % of employees in HR are women. This fact in combination with statistics from BRÅ (The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention) and Amnesty International, confirming that women are more exposed for threats also in a digital context, motivated Sigma IT to find a secure solution for digital personal protection.

“The corona crisis has forced many to work online in environments without proper protection against external threats, putting persons in a leading position at risk. We wanted to contribute to a secure working environment for the entire executive group, but in particular for the most exposed individuals. In this case, the HR manager and most often a woman”, says Per-Rune Nilsson, responsible for Executive Protection and Services.

It is not only personal digital threats that increase in society. According to a global survey from PWC, “Cyber threats against Sweden in 2019”, as many as 50 % of Swedish companies had been subject to cyber-attacks during 2018, and 65 % expected an increase the coming year. At the same time, authorities bring pressure to bear on the Swedish government to hasten up the founding of a national department for cyber security. The Swedish National Defense, in cooperation with KTH Royal Institute of Technology, has also recruited its first group of cyber soldiers.

“It’s incredibly important that we make sure to secure every link in the chain to protect both authorities, industry and the individual. We would like to emphasize the importance of personal security since failures often are related to the home. No individual safety, no safety at all”, says Per-Rune Nilsson.

Sigma IT now offers a service solution where a digitally focused professional security team review all existing technology in the client’s home. The service also offers security training for the entire family. In consultation with the client, an overhaul and digital clean-up of all existing personal information on the internet, are carried out. Decreased visibility leads to increased safety. Next, a tailormade digital security strategy for everybody involved, is designed. The strategy often includes 24/7 monitoring of internet and Darknet to detect and proactively eliminate undesired activity in time.
